Jacob Swindells is excited to be launching Singing Meditation in June, a unique experience at the Carnegie Library Hub.
“Singing Meditation started with the launch of Energy Choir in January this year with the idea of creating a musical experience that was accessible, without sheet music and drop-in friendly. As part of running those sessions I experimented with grounding exercises familiar from the world of Yoga, Meditation and Wellness. What I discovered was that entering a meditative state had a very powerful effect on the experience of the music. Everything became, deeper, richer and more fulfilling. Over time it became clear that the journey was not to be an ordinary choir but a deep meditation experience using music”
Out of his experience, he is looking forward to introducing Singing Meditation – a movement using group singing as an object of focus.
Many meditation traditions encourage the technique of concentration on an object such as your breath or a candle. This draws focus away from the busy mind and promotes inner calm.
As a solo exercise this can be very challenging. Singing Meditation makes it easy, since the spontaneous musical journey carries you within, sustained by the power of the group.
You don’t need any background in music, singing or meditation to give it a go!
