There was tremendous support for our Community Cafe and Lounge Pop Up in December and we are looking forward to being able to make this a more permanent fixture. In the meantime the space will remain laid out as a community lounge; we have accumulated some lovely furniture, as well as more comfortable seating so that this beautiful large, high-ceilinged room can be used for local groups.
Local charity Loughborough Junction Action Group held their staff away day for over 40 people involved in grass roots local projects such as The Loughborough Farm, Platform Cafe, Grove Adventure Playground as well as Maude and Hazel’s Craft workshops that are held here at the Carnegie Library Hub on Tuesday mornings. It was great to have room to accommodate working groups throughout the day and to spread out for lunch with the light streaming through the windows.
Last Wednesday evening we opened our community lounge for the Death Cafe, free of charge, and all who attended were able to make the most of this unique opportunity to talk openly and honestly about death in a safe and confidential environment. Coffee, cake and conversation in the Carnegie Library Hub’s community lounge were provided by volunteers and tickets to attend were free.
We want to continue to enrich our neighbourhood with a diverse range of events and can offer low rates, and sometimes free space, for those working for the benefit of our local community. Get in touch with us if you have any events in mind that might work well in the community lounge.
