We have made a small update to our name and will now be trading as ‘Carnegie Library Hub’. This will be more familiar to local residents and users than our original trading name of Carnegie Community Hub.
After over a year of trading, building up the community business post Covid, we have found the community understandably remain confused about who we are, and we are frequently referred to as the “Carnegie Library”. Hardly surprising given the beautiful wrought iron letter work over the front entrance and the popular library within. We manage the Hub events and partnerships and work alongside the excellently run Lambeth Library all within the same building. This name change reflects how people typically think of this much-loved local building and what is in it; at the same time acknowledging that we run the Community Hub component.
Many of you will have noticed that the Carnegie Library building is undergoing significant reparations work, to undertake necessary external repairs and fix internal damage, all compliant with its Grade II listed building status. We expect these works to continue across the Spring/Summer period and we wanted to use this as an opportunity to expand the Hub in the Summer with renewed purpose and further grow our partnerships.
This change is only an update to our trading name and the Hub continues to be run and managed by a charitable Trust that works closely with Lambeth Council. Carnegie Library, both the public service and the beautiful building, has been at the heart of our community for over a century, and will continue to be so, therefore we believe it is important to reflect and preserve that legacy.
